Carolyn is a from the RVA area and grew up in Goochland County. She is a twice graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has a Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Social Work. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is in good standing with the Academy of Certified Social Workers. Since earning her degrees, she has been working in the mental health and substance abuse fields. She has worked at a variety of settings including crisis centers, residential substance abuse centers and intensive outpatient counseling centers and outpatient mental health and substance abuse centers in both private and public settings in both North Carolina and Virginia. She has also volunteered and worked with several outdoor programs in Richmond and North Carolina. She opened Beyond the Crux Counseling in April of 2018. Carolyn is also a three time graduate from the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). She is also successfully graduated from the first English speaking course at the Institut fur Therapeutisches Klettern (Institute for Therapeutic Climbing ) in Austria in August of 2018. She has enjoyed combining her love of helping others with her love of climbing. When not working or climbing she enjoys mountain biking ( and has raced a bit), hiking and anything outside. She is always looking for new adventures!

Carolyn has a partner at her office. Her name is Rosie Sharff. She is an Australian Shepherd who also loves to be of service to others.
